At the historic Palace Theatre, designed by Kirchhoff & Rose and famously lifted 30 feet as part of the TSX Broadway redevelopment, I played a key role in the plaster restoration scope. With the building physically raised 30 feet from its foundations, work supervised by engineers from my office, many plaster elements sustained damage. I conducted extensive field inspections—meticulously assessing the stability of both historic and new plaster lath and structural supports, including critical hangers in the dome and proscenium areas. Our team prioritized preserving as much original plaster as possible, balancing technical rigor with respect for the theater’s rich architectural heritage. This hands-on work deepened my understanding of plaster conservation within a complex, large-scale landmark restoration.
