In Segovia, Spain, I collaborated with two fellow students on a combined design and construction project aimed at activating open park spaces by introducing a “caseta” — a small cabin-style bookshop. Our focus centered on selecting the ideal urban site within the historic city, carefully analyzing drainage and environmental factors to ensure the structure harmonized with its surroundings. We explored wood as the primary construction material, developing physical material connections that balanced durability with sensitivity to Segovia’s rich architectural heritage.
This third-year undergraduate project offered invaluable lessons in adapting modern programs within historic contexts, demonstrating that thoughtful design transcends borders and cultures. While the overall aesthetic was shaped by others, my involvement in site analysis and material integration deepened my understanding of how contemporary interventions can respectfully coexist with historic urban fabric.
